Getting the right career is important to your future. While preparing for an interview may seem stressful, if you maintain a positive attitude and stay relaxed, you might come away with a rewarding new career. As you greet your interviewer, remember this: you’ve been asked to interview with BJC because you have skills and experience that we value. Now, it’s just a matter of showing us your passion for excellence in person.

Before:

  • Be interview ready 10-15 minutes early
  • Conduct research on the organization, hiring manager and career opportunity
  • Prepare appropriate documents and materials to reference during your interview
  • Make certain that you know the name and contact number of your Talent Acquisition team member
  • Write down some questions in advance to ask during the interview

During:

  • Turn off your cell phone
  • Take notes
  • Ask insightful questions
  • Listen carefully and maintain eye contact
  • Be confident — sell your skills!

Onboarding Process

At BJC HealthCare, we want your transition to our team to be as seamless and pleasant as possible. Upon the start of your career, you will be guided by your manager or another experienced professional through an array of practical, on-the-job training and introductory courses and tools to ensure that you have the opportunity to learn and grow.

Upon your arrival, you will partake in a formal BJC HealthCare introduction program that may include web and classroom-based training depending on your position and area of expertise. Pre-employment Testing

BJC HealthCare strives to improve the health and well-being of our employees, patients and community. It is of vital importance that every employee be able to perform at optimal levels, and provide the very best possible care to each patient, and the highest level of performance for each partner, vendor, or internal client.

For the protection of patients, team members and all who enter our facilities, BJC has made the decision to require COVID-19 vaccination for all team members, unless granted medical or religious exemption, as a condition of employment.

In addition, we require passage of a drug and background screen, as well as a physical examination, for every employee on our team. Certain positions have been designated as safety sensitive, and require that you a pass marijuana drug screen, regardless of whether or not you have a medical marijuana ID card. 

One of our Talent Acquisition team members will email you a link from our vendor, SterlingBackCheck, which will include detailed instructions about the background screening process. In addition, you will be asked to take appropriate tests at the occupational health center within the hospital where you applied or at one of the three BarnesCare locations. BarnesCare is the occupational health division of BJC HealthCare.

Preparing for your pre-employment screening
 

  • Before your pre-employment screening, we ask that you fill out and bring certain occupational health forms in order to make the process easier for you and for our teams
  • All new hires are asked to bring all available vaccine records to the post-offer/pre-placement screening; this may include childhood and/or school vaccine records, or records from previous employers (especially if the employer was a health care facility)
  • We ask that your vaccination or immunization records include measles, mumps, rubella or MMR vaccination; Varicella or chickenpox (vaccination or physician-documented proof of disease); pertussis vaccine (Tdap); Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 shots); Hepatitis A vaccine series (2 shots) if ever received; last year’s and/or a current TB skin test (proof of TB testing within the last 12 months); results of any blood testing for immunity to measles, mumps, rubella or chickenpox from a previous employer; and proof of the most recent influenza vaccine (September through March)

Important note: If you lack proof of immunization, this may cause a delay in your employment.

  • Army PaYs Program: BJC is proud to partner with the Army PaYs Program to create professional civilian positions that are comparable to Army positions and make the transition that much easier for veterans join our team. A variety of promising roles at BJC have been posted to the Army PaYs platform.
  • Transition Assistance Program: In partnership with Scott Air Force Base, BJC helps prepare veterans for the transition to civilian life, attends their employer panel twice a month and coaches approximately 90 veterans per quarter on making adjustments that are essential to success.
  • BJC Veterans Connection group: This group brings together BJC team members who have served and are currently serving our country. The group gets together a couple times a year, volunteers in the community together, and celebrates Veterans Day as a community each November.

Where can current nursing students or recent graduate nursing students apply?

BJC HealthCare hires graduate nurses year-round depending on the availability of positions that consider new graduates. A new graduate is a registered nurse with less than one year of experience working as an RN. To be considered for an RN position at BJC HealthCare, nursing students currently enrolled in a program and graduating within the next year are invited to apply to Graduate Nurse Openings.

How do I apply to a job if I’m a current BJC HealthCare employee?

Current employees should apply by accessing myBJCnet and completing the following steps:

Step 1: Log into myBJCnet using your BJC user ID and password.

Step 2: Click the myCareer Folder under the My HR Main menu.

How will I be evaluated after applying for a job at BJC HealthCare?

We will carefully assess your application, resume/CV, and experience related to the job for which you are applying. If you are being considered for a job, a member of our Talent Acquisition team will contact you for more information or to schedule an interview.

Additionally, we may review your application for other opportunities. If we identify another position that matches your background and expertise, and would like to pursue the opportunity with you, a member of our Talent Acquisition team will contact you. Is there another way to apply for a job at BJC HealthCare?

BJC HealthCare no longer accepts mailed/faxed resumes to our office. All job applications must be completed online. If you do not have access to a computer, consider visiting your local library. Many branches have computers for public use.

How long is the application-to-hire process?

Processing time for individual applications will vary. Not everyone who applies for a job will be contacted. We strive to hire the most highly qualified candidates for each of our openings. If you believe you are an excellent candidate for one of our open positions, we welcome you to apply.

Can I apply for multiple jobs?

If you meet all of the skill and education requirements for multiple jobs and have a sincere interest in each position, you may apply for multiple jobs; however, applying for numerous jobs in multiple fields at the same time is not recommended. Strongly consider focusing your job search on those positions that are most closely aligned with your qualifications, skills, education, work experience, and career goals rather than applying for every open position for which you are minimally qualified.

Employee Referral Program

To make the BJC HealthCare team even better — and continue our success as we grow to meet the needs of our communities — we encourage our employees to refer friends, family and other talented connections to choose BJC.

For each referral we hire, the referring employee receives a cash reward ranging in value from $500 to $3,000. The amount of the reward depends upon the job category, the extent of experience possessed by the referral and the critical nature of filling the position. Some bonuses are paid in full after the referral has completed 90 days of successful employment; others are paid in two equal installments, the first after 90 days, and the second after six months of successful employment.
