You’re missing out when you watch TV

If lifting the remote control is your primary fitness activity each day, you could be at an increased risk of obesity. BJC ACO wants you to know that each hour you log in front of the television leads to 144 fewer steps taken per day. Since the average American watches four hours a day, that’s almost 580 fewer steps taken toward a recommended goal of 10,000.

Couch time takes away from time spent walking, playing with the kids or gardening. Researchers also suspect that commercials can influence you to make poor eating choices. Limit your TV viewing to no more than two hours per day, and make a commitment to be active at least 30 minutes a day.

Make exercise time your new prime time. Before starting any exercise program, see your doctor. And if you need help finding a doctor, call the physician finder line at 855.747.8606.
