Medicine doesn’t belong in the medicine cabinet – and other useful tips

BJC ACO wants you to be safe when it comes to your medications. Taken properly, medicines can promote good health and help you feel better. However, you and your family should remember these important tips to take medicines safely:

  • Don’t store medications in the bathroom medicine cabinet or in sunlight; humidity, heat and light can affect a medication’s safety and potency
  • Don’t chew, crush or break any capsules or tablets unless instructed; it can cause some medicines to be absorbed too quickly by the body or lose their effectiveness
  • Never take anyone else’s medication; it may be the wrong dosage for you or cause an allergic reaction

Talk to your physician or pharmacist about how to appropriately take your medications.
