Christopher Miller, MD, MSSenior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer

Christopher N. Miller, MD, MS, senior vice president and chief clinical officer, serves as the senior clinical leader across BJC HealthCare.

Partnering closely with Washington University School of Medicine colleagues, Dr. Miller will lead BJC’s care delivery model redesign to provide the best value for patients and health care consumers. He will oversee the continued integration of clinical care to ensure BJC’s patients and the communities BJC serves have equitable and efficient access to the most comprehensive array of medical care and services in the region.

As the BJC Center for Clinical Excellence senior executive, Dr. Miller leads the team’s efforts to advance and continuously improve BJC’s quality, patient safety, high reliability and care delivery programs. The team will establish clinical priorities and assure best-in-class quality outcomes throughout BJC by leveraging operational efficiency methodology, clinical intelligence, informatics and data analytics. He also leads the teams that create systemwide clinical standards that align with BJC’s mission, vision and key strategies.

Dr. Miller joined BJC in April 2023 from University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as both the president of University Hospitals Clinical Network and as University Hospitals’ inaugural chief clinical officer. Prior to his UHCN role, he served as president of University Hospitals Physician Services, as well as chair of the department of emergency medicine at UH Cleveland Medical Center, and as the emergency medicine physician-in-chief for the UH system. He also was the Carol and Arthur F. Anton Endowed Chair for physician leadership.

Dr. Miller earned both his medical degree and master of science degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he also served as chief resident. As an active-duty United States Navy officer, Dr. Miller served in direct support of United States Marine Corps combat operations during two separate deployments to Iraq, as well as multiple other overseas missions. His list of military decorations, academic honors and research publications is extensive. Recognized nationally as a physician leader, he is invited regularly to speak on culture and leadership.
