BJC employees lend a helping hand to Boys and Girls Club of Alton

BJC Employee Service Center administrator Javonte “Jay” Campbell and his colleagues were recently highlighted by riverbender.com, a news website covering the Alton, Illinois, area, for giving a helping hand to the Boys and Girls Club of Alton. Campbell and his colleagues in human resources painted the fences at the Club’s new home on Washington Avenue.

BJC human resources held a “non-traditional” breakout session at the department’s semi-annual All-HR Day conference Aug. 2. After a morning program of project and business updates, team members spent the afternoon serving the community at non-profit organizations across the region.

More than 200 BJC HR staffers fanned out in teams, doing everything from rocking babies to playing BINGO with seniors, from painting fences to assembling first aid kits, and from cleaning up classrooms to sorting canned goods.

The day not only helped area organizations get essential work done — it reinforced the concept with employees and community members that BJC is a company whose mission includes improving the communities it serves.

Javonte “Jay” Campbell, BJC employee service center administrator and an Alton, Illinois, native, was on the planning committee for the day and coordinated the team that went to the Boys and Girls Club of Alton.

“The reason I wanted to go to the Boys and Girls Club is because I’m from Alton and attended the Club as a kid,” he says. “Secondly, in Alton, BJC has Alton Memorial Hospital, as well as Eunice Smith Home. I felt that it would be a good marketing tool and a way to make our presence felt in that community.

“BJC has a big presence in this area,” Campbell adds. “I’m just glad I was able to make it happen and grateful to those who came out, because we really had a great time and, most importantly, we got a lot done.”
