Facilities team gets emergency generator donated to St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Thanks to donations of time, equipment and knowledge, the St. Louis Crisis Nursery on the CH campus has an emergency generator with an automatic transfer switch to turn on without service interruption.

CH facilities, led by manager Rick Bazan and lead power plant operator Pat Moore, saw the need to provide emergency power to the nursery after a significant power outage last summer caused by a storm with high winds that knocked out the normal power feed.

The CH facilities team quickly jumped into action and provided the nursery with a portable air conditioning unit.

“In all honesty, it wasn’t enough to keep the kids and counselors comfortable because, let’s face it, we all know how hot our St. Louis summers can be,” Moore says.

Moore led the efforts and asked for donations and the help of CK Power, Guarantee Electric, Peters-Eichler Mechanical, Spire, and Oreo and Botta Concrete.

Denise Wiehardt, St. Louis Crisis Nursery program coordinator, was excited. “Out of five locations, the Crisis Nursery North location is the only site that will never have to close due to storm-related power outages,” she says.
