BJC Scholar Is Off to a Good Start at the University of Illinois

In 2016, BJC HealthCare created a scholarship opportunity in response to community needs identified by the Ferguson Commission. Open to high school seniors planning to pursue a two- or four-year degree at a public Missouri or Illinois state college or university in their state, the BJC Scholars Fund offers need-based awards of $10,000 per academic year. The annually renewable scholarship, which is funded by BJC and administered by The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, is open to students in communities served by BJC hospitals.

BJC Scholar Tory Greenwood of Collinsville, Ill., recently provided an update on her success at school. Tory attends the University of Illinois and is majoring in music performance.

“I am sorry that I was unable to stop by during winter break to tell you how school was going. It has been pretty busy. My first semester was successful; I made a 3.89 GPA. Because of my hard work, I was invited to be a Fine and Applied Arts James Scholar in the James Scholar Honor Program and I made the Dean's List. I am involved in two music-oriented service fraternities and in many ensembles; it has been both fun and educational. I want to continue to thank BJC HealthCare and The Scholarship Foundation for providing me the financial opportunity to achieve these successes, and I will try to keep you updated.”
