Richard J. Liekweg
President and Chief Executive Officer
Richard J. Liekweg is president and chief executive officer of BJC HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit, integrated health care delivery organizations with over $6 billion in net revenues and more than 30,000 employees serving the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and southeast Missouri regions.
Liekweg joined BJC HealthCare in 2009 as president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and group president for BJC HealthCare. In 2015, Liekweg was promoted to executive vice president and subsequently president of BJC. He was named president and chief executive officer in January 2018.
Before joining BJC, Liekweg served as chief executive officer and associate vice chancellor for the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center from 2003-2009. Liekweg also spent more than 16 years at Duke University Health System.
He currently serves on the boards of several professional and community organizations including Vizient; Washington University; Missouri Hospital Association; Cortex; St. Louis Regional Health Commission; Greater St. Louis, Inc., BioSTL and Forest Park Forever.
Liekweg holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Virginia and master’s degrees in health services administration and business administration, both from the University of Michigan.
A native of Virginia, Liekweg and his wife Stacey, the chief operating officer of CaeliVascular, live in the city of St. Louis and have one daughter.
