BJC Offers Flu Vaccines to Construction Workers

November 2022 - Continuing a tradition of offering influenza vaccinations on construction projects, BJC HealthCare’s infection prevention specialists Loie Couch and Becca Vines vaccinated 20 workers on the Campus Renewal Project site at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Oct. 20.

“Sometimes getting a flu vaccination is a matter of opportunity,” says Couch. “We bring that opportunity to our construction partners.”

In the U.S., influenza typically causes tens of thousands of deaths each year and hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations. And while Megan Catlett and Danny Rojas, project engineers with McCarthy Building Companies, are in their early 20s and in good health, they understand the importance of getting vaccinated.

“Every year I have gotten one, and I have yet to get the flu,” says Catlett. “It's a simple practice in order to stay healthy during flu season.”

Rojas adds he gets it to stay healthy and safe and encourages others to do the same. “With the vaccination, your body will be better equipped to battle the flu and you won’t have to worry about missing out on any special occasions.”
