Plaza West Tower Topped Out

June 11, 2024 - It was a beautiful day to celebrate a signficant construction milestone - the topping out of the new Plaza West Tower at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The final structural beam, signed by trades men and women, employees, physicians, board members, patients and families, was hoisted 300+ feet to the top of the tower. The topping out is a time-honored tradition marks the completion of the structural phase of construction, marking more than two and a half years and 1.7 million hours of work.

The new 16-story patient care tower is located at the corner of Barnes-Jewish Plaza and Kingshighway Boulevard on the Washington University Medical Campus. Plaza West Tower is expected to open infall 2025.

Attendees, including BJC and Washington University School of Medicine leadership and board members, elected officials, and project team members, were on hand to sign the steel beam and witness the crane hoist it more than 300 feet to top off the new tower.
