Ware and Johnson Headline BJC 201

September 2024 - At the September 18 BJC 201 session, Donna Ware, BJC executive director of planning & design, spent some time helping contractors and designers understand how best to interact and work with the department, outlining the department's design processes and standards, which have evolved recently. She also introduced the department organization structure. See Donna's presentation here

Also presenting was St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP) executive director, Shanise Johnson, who's also a proud alumna of the program. Johnson spoke of the history of SLIP and how training and internships prepare young people for their futures. SLIP, offered through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, is a comprehensive life and career readiness program for high school students. See Shanise's presentation here

The next BJC 201 session is 10 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the BJC Learning Institute, lower level conference center. More information will be shared with contractors prior to the event.

BJC Planning, Design & Construction launched an educational program, BJC 101, in September 2013 as part of its diversity & inclusion program. This program was established to expose and educate minority and women business enterprise (MBE/WBE) professional service and construction firms (including trade contractors) to the highly-regulated healthcare space. Now BJC 201, quarterly sessions are intended to create learning experiences in key areas of business/industry including operations, project management, estimating, marketing, business development and financial controls.
