Pneumatic Tubes

The new hospital will implement a pneumatic tube (P-tube) system, greatly increasing the efficiency of the processes and work of our team members, and enabling them to spend more time in their patient care roles.

The system will transport items quickly and efficiently to their destinations. Typical items transported through the secured system include medications, specimens and labs, small supplies, and paperwork. Hospital leadership will create policy specifying items, medications and specimens the P-tubes will transport.

Team members authorized to use the system will receive training.

The 13 secure pneumatic tube stations will be located in the following locations:

Lower level procedure floor – three stations

1. Operating rooms
2. PACU
3. Pre-op

Main floor – four stations

1. Outpatient lab
2. Main lab
3. Pharmacy
4. Emergency department

Second floor nursing unit – three stations

1. Central patient care station
2. Medication room
3. Medication room

Third floor nursing unit – three stations

1. Central patient care station
2. Medication room
3. Medication room
