BJC Hosts Networking Event

August 2024 - BJC Planning, Design & Construction( PD&C) hosted a forum for minority and women owned businesses (MBE/WBE) in design, engineering and construcion to network with larger contractors. The annual event connects these businesses in an effort to increase the diversity in the design and construction industry.

Forty MBE/WBE firms, which are part of PD&C's capactity building warehouse (CBW) had the opportunity to showcase their work and meet contractors and designers in PD&C's Toolbox.

Amy Hughes, owner and lighting designer, H2Ltg, appreciated the opportunity to see so many colleagues face to face. "We are very fortunate to know so many of the BJC staff and were able to make new connections with the facilities group, which allowed us to receive feedback on previous designs.

"It’s so beneficial to learn what is appreciated and where we can make modifications to make everyone’s life easier on future projects. We also met architects from project teams that we had never met in person. As much as we love virtual meetings, it’s hard to develop a personal relationship from the computer. The event allowed us to personally meet and strengthen our relationships."

Hughes adds that they were humbled by how many PD&C team members knew them by name and what projects they were working on. "We felt valued and recognized for all of the work we have done."
