March 2022 - Before the concrete foundation floor and walls can be poured and the new 16-story hospital tower can start to rise from the ground, drill rigs are digging holes into bedrock below for 60+ piers to support the building. Excavators are digging soil and loading it into trucks to haul away. Five feet at a time, an earth retention system and shoring is installed surrounding the site.
December 2021 - BJC HealthCare’s infection prevention specialist Loie Couch vaccinated 15 workers on the Campus Renewal Project at Barnes-Jewish Hospital December 1. That was more than one-third of the workforce in this early stage of the project.
Nov. 2021 - Cheryl Stoddard, President of Technology Integration Engineering (TIE), credits participation in BJC Planning, Design and Construction’s (PD&C) diversity and inclusion program for the growth of her young company. “The Capacity Building Warehouse (CBW) was a catalyst for where we are today,” says Stoddard. “I would have struggled more if it had not been for applying to BJC’s CBW and making connections through BJC 201.”
October 18-22, 2021 marks the inaugural Construction Inclusion Week in which every member of the construction industry is invited to unite in efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. BJC HealthCare’s Campus Renewal Project is an opportunity to build on the success of our diversity and inclusion work in the design and construction community launched in 2013 during the first phase of Campus Renewal.
Oct. 2021 – The September BJC 201 program, the third this year that was held virtually, focused on how to successfully create strategic alliances on design and construction projects. These quarterly sessions are intended to create learning experiences in key areas of business/industry including operations, project management, estimating, marketing, business development and financial controls.
